Maya Shamans

We at Naturaleza are piloting an indigenous peoples apprenticeship program where the younger generations are given opportunity to interact with their elders with regard to Shamanism and Herbalism in the hopes that this precious knowledge not disappear.

Our goal is to establish stipends and eventual scholarships such that the shamans apprentice might be educated in the ways of the western world too. This multicultural educational regime will facilitate cross-cultural and multidisciplinary collaboration and foster new and innovative initiatives. Also, the participation of the healers and students and apprentices recruited by BITI on all of our joint projects is important as a means of transfer of knowledge to the younger generation. Without the resources to engage in endeavors like the development of the healer's center and the development of sustainable phytomedicines this transfer of knowledge to the younger generation would simply not occur due to practical reasons.
